Summary: The Assistant Editor’s primary task is to manage and review submissions, tracking our submission system and corresponding with our submitters. The Assistant Editor also trains and manages the Peer Review staff, reviewing every work that is submitted and then assigning each to the appropriate Peer Review staff members. The Assistant Editor leads a twice-monthly review session with Peer Review staff, culminating in a final proofreading session. Finally, the Assistant Editor helps decide what content should be included in each volume and how it should be displayed in both the print and online issues.
Requirements: This position demands at least 10 hours each week (including board meetings) and a reasonably flexible schedule. The position offers a 3-credit internship through the English department.

Summary: The Managing Editor translates daily operations of the journal into documents that helps maintain institutional knowledge from year to year. The Managing Editor develops and refines necessary technical documents that allow the smooth transition between outgoing and incoming boards. The Managing Editor manages the annual budget and works with each board member to create and maintain his or her own individual budget. Finally, the Managing Editor works with the Assistant Editor and Peer Review staff to proofread selected content for publication.
Requirements: This position demands at least 10 hours each week (including board meetings) and a reasonably flexible schedule. The position offers a 3-credit internship through the English department.

Summary: The Design Director controls and maintains the brand/image of the journal, finding and updating occurrences of the journal in Mason material and websites. The Design Director also creates fliers, posters, business cards, and other related marketing materials. The Design Director designs or chooses artwork for the cover of each volume. Finally, the DD helps develop the print and online issues of each volume.
Requirements: This position demands at least 10 hours each week (including board meetings) and a reasonably flexible schedule. This position also requires a working knowledge of InDesign. We will work with your department to get you a 3-credit internship.

Summary: The Marketing Director: PR is primarily responsible for the visibility of the journal. The Marketing Director: PR creates and maintains a yearly marketing-campaign plan. The Marketing Director: PR conducts faculty and student outreach, distributing materials that generate submissions and cultivate relationships within the Mason community. The Marketing Director: PR also recruits and manages the Marketing Committee, leading a bi-monthly session to develop needed materials for the marketing-campaign plan.

Summary: The Marketing Director: Logistics is primarily responsible for the logistics of the marketing-campaign plan. The Marketing Director: Logistics creates and maintains a yearly marketing-campaign plan and also develops the necessary budget and schedule for that marketing-campaign plan. The Marketing Director: Logistics manages a contact list of key student organizations and faculty with whom the journal has built relationships. The Marketing Director: Logistics also facilitates online marketing.

Summary: The Web Director’s primary task is to maintain and update the journal’s website. The Web Director helps update occurrences of the journal on Mason websites and incorporate scholarship-related Mason organizations on our website. The Web Director develops innovative ways of integrating re-visioned scholarship into the website for the online version of each volume. Finally, the Web Director helps facilitate online marketing.
Requirements This position demands at least 5 hours each week (including board meetings). We will work with your department to get you a 1-credit internship.

Peer Reviewer
Summary: Peer reviewers meet twice every month with the Editor-in-chief and Assistant Editor to evaluate submissions, submissions that will come in a variety of forms from peers across the discipline. Peer reviewers evaluate these submissions to see how well they align with the mission of the GMR and how well they demonstrate excellence in their respective field. In essence, peer reviewers help decide what works define or even redefine scholarship, and, in this capacity, peer reviewers lend their voice to what Mason scholarship looks like.
Requirements: This position requires attendance to bi-monthly, 2.5-hour meetings each month. Peer reviewers are always considered first for vacant Assistant Editor and Managing Editor positions, and they also have the opportunity to write for the GMRblog. Peer reviewers will be recognized by name in the print volumes of the GMR and on our website.
